Archaeology or archeology, is the study of human activity in the past, primarily through the recovery and analysis of the material culture and environmental data that has been left behind by past human populations, which includes artifacts, architecture, biofacts and cultural landscapes

Archeologists work hard to not only uncover artifacts from the past but also to examine clues to understand how these artifacts functioned in the society that created them. Through this lesson, we are going to be working like archeologists, not only to examine artifacts from the past, but also to better understand the artifacts that we ourselves create. In the end, we are going to be creating our own "cultural artifacts" (don't worry! I'll explain what that means!) which we will then stow away for the next few years in a time capsule to be "rediscovered" at the end of your ninth grade year!

So let's start digging!
